Roammeo + YEI: And So It Begins

As students, we are used to first-day jitters. We’ve all gone through the routines of picking out our outfits the night before the first day of school, making sure that we have our backpacks ready, and sizing up our teachers the moment that they walk through the door.

But this morning, the Roammeo team had a different kind of first day (and, if our elementary school principals will forgive us for saying so, a far more exciting one): our first day as Summer Fellows at the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute. For the next ten weeks, we will be working full-time on Roammeo to add more features and to expand to more places (which means that if you have been craving a better way to discover events on your campus or in your area, now’s the perfect time to get in touch!)

The fellowship involves a stipend, a collection of entrepreneurial speakers (whose wisdom we will do our best to share with you here), assigned and unassigned mentors, our own shared office space, sweet swag, and 24/7 (actually 24/7 — we can swipe in at all hours!) access to whiteboards for brainstorming.

Conference rooms to the right, whiteboards to the left, our summer home right in the middle.

YEI Fellows are the most stylish students on campus.

Veteran Roammeo users, let us know if you have ideas to keep making the site and app better — new Roammeo users, check us out and let us know what you think! We can’t wait to share our developments with you from our newest space in the Elm City.

Roammeo at Yale!

So it’s been a while since Bulldog Days closed up, the giant blow-up version of Handsome Dan disappeared for another year, and the Roammeo team posted a blog entry.

That’s because, behind the scenes, we’ve been busy working to build out a platform that works across Yale’s campus throughout the year, not just when admitted students visit. Check it out at www.roammeo.com/yale. We also have an iPhone app on the way (it’s awaiting approval in the app store…shoutout Steve Jobs!), and we’ll have an Android app that will launch this summer and be ready for your return in the fall.

Some exciting new features this time around:

  • Roammeo now allows you to tag events at the end of their descriptions using a #hashtag format. This allows you to add extra, easily-searchable info like the name of your group (#ycc), the type of event (#acappella), and, most importantly, the existence of #freefood and #happyhours.
  • The most popular tags at any given time will be listed beneath the categories on the right-hand side of the map. You can click on them and the list of upcoming events with that tag will automatically pop-up! *Heads up that this week is Yale’s finals week, so many of the usual tags are less active right now due to #excessivestudying.
  • For the first time, you can post your own events on Roammeo! Fill in the “Post Event” form. After a brief approval process, the event will show up on the map.

As always, give us thoughts, ideas, feedback, and onebuttonwenzel donations. The Roammeo team will be working full-time this summer to keep making Roammeo as awesome and useful as possible for you, so we welcome your comments.

P.S. We’d also like to send a quick shoutout to our amazing co-competitors at the YCC App Competition! We were proud to take home first prize to keep revolutionizing the way that students discover and share events, but we were also blown away by the Bluebooking apps, SubletMeYale, and, again, of course, the OneButtonWenzel. Boola boola.
